Okonjo-Iweala, Sanusi Seeks Reform of Education Sector



 The minister of finance and coordinating minister of economy, Ngozi okonjo-iweala,and the governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi have called for the overhauling of the educational sector.
The minister made this declaration t the 2012 Isaac Moghalu foundation lecture in Lagos saying that the existing frame work for administering education in the country by various tiers of government was unclear.
She said that the quality of the education system and the associated learning outcomes are poor adding that the government spending on education in Nigeria is higher than what some countries are spending.
Okonjo-iweala said that the decadence in the educational sector needed to be checked so that it would not affect the economy as a whole.
Meanwhile, the CBN governor has called on Nigerians to start asking for merit in those who governs the country.
Sanusi said that people must ensure that they select people for positions of authority based on merit, adding that this is a major problem that needs to be fixed.
He stressed that people chose to oversee offices should be nominate to serve the country and they should be screened based on diversity and not merit based which is very wrong.

The academic session of the Nigerian institute of journalism opens with a new dimension this year with the first semester from January.
The introduction of various levels and lecturers started lectures and classes as fast as possible to meet up the demand of the school’s council and the institution academic calendar.
This year’s session examination was hoped to be the best after so much display portrayed by the students. The first semester results which was posted on the 27th of July, 2012 brought tears of joy and sorrow to the students in different levels.
According to some students who are not familiar with the school system sees this development as a means for them to study more this coming semester examination as the results of the first semester was posted a week to the second semester examination.
It is the tradition of the institution to release results a week to examination so that students who failed the last semester will sit up and study hard for the next examination so as to upgrade their gp.
According to a student in national diploma one, Bankole Stephen,” this is my first time to see students anxious about results after all we have heard that it is not easy to pass Nigerian institute of journalism first semester examination”.
He added that the examination for the first semester was too tasking and demanding because it was not that easy for him to cope with the pressure from and school.
However, the institute released the results so that students can be serious with the next coming examination most especially the graduating students in national diploma two, higher diploma two and postgraduates.

Nij Celebrates Student’s Week in Glamour



In a bid to create pulse and relaxation for students, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism authority gave a week free to students to celebrate their student’s week.
The student week featured important dignitaries like the editor of the punch newspaper, Mrs. Toyosi ogunleye,director of intervention group( dance troupe),  Segun  Adefila, to mention but a few.
According to Segun Adefila who gave lecture on the cultural day,” culture is the bed rock and strength of the nation and as such the nation must build her youth with relevant culture to embrace national development”.
He said youths should uphold the dignity of their culture since they serve as the hope of the future and be good ambassadors of this great country Nigeria.
As Nigeria is a great country of natural resources so it cultural value and as such there is need to advancement in cultural development, Adefila added.
Furthermore, the director enforced Nigerian parents to always teach their children the language, belief and custom of the nation to boost development.
Subsequently, the institution presented him with an award of excellence for his great contribution towards cultural development in the state.


Adefila advised students to take their studies serious thereby becoming better journalists in the nearest future.
